The Santa Cruz County Film Commission assists with film permits, locations, and provides information on crew, equipment and support services for feature films, commercials, television, and still photography shoots.
Santa Cruz is 35 miles south of San Jose, 65 miles south of San Francisco, 35 miles north of Monterey and 375 miles north of Los Angeles.
In addition to its locations and proximity to the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Cruz County offers a diversity of locations, including majestic redwood forests, winding mountain roads, charming rustic towns, an historic narrow-gauge railroad at Roaring Camp Railroads, old Victorian neighborhoods, colorful seaside villages, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, lush agricultural fields, dramatic coastal bluffs, and 29 miles of coastline, all within just a few hundred square miles.

Santa Cruz County has been featured in over 140 television productions and feature films, including The Lost Boys, Harold and Maude, Kinsey, Frog and Wombat, Dangerous Minds, Sudden Impact and The Tripper. Santa Cruz County Film Commission is a member of FLICS (Film Liaisons in California, Statewide) a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the best professional level of service to the production community. The California Film Commission (CFC) coordinates with the over 60 Regional Film Offices to help promote and facilitate filming throughout California. Regional Film Office Partners support productions that wish to film in a local region. They operate as part of their jurisdiction's chamber of commerce, county, city, or convention and visitors bureau. Regional Film Office Partners have a knowledge of production and will coordinate film location activities when a production company wishes to film in their area. We recommend that your first call should be to the local Regional Film Office Partner. It could save you a lot of time, money, and energy.
