Goleta

Goleta is a city in southern Santa Barbara County, California, US. Goleta is about 8 miles (13 km) west of the city of Santa Barbara, along the coast (the coast runs east to west in this portion of southern California). Nearby is the Santa Barbara campus of the University of California and the student community of Isla Vista. Monarch butterflies spend the winter in several eucalyptus groves on the Ellwood Mesa. The principal mountain ranges are the Santa Ynez Mountains to the south, the San Rafael Mountains to the interior, and the Sierra Madre Mountains to the northeast. The Santa Ynez Mountains loom large above the city. Snow and sundowners, the only real weather and climate extremes besides thunderstorms and wind that appear in the region, frequent on these mountains. The rest of the city is made up of hilly land, with some pockets of dry, barren, often smelly land. There are also pockets of gentle, flat land. Occasionally, cliffs rise by the beach. In the mountains, wilderness dominates the land, containing much wildlife. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goleta,_California
