Rocklin’s gentle rolling foothill terrain, located just outside of the greater Sacramento region, captures the beauty of everything Northern California has to offer. Home to 37 developed parks and over 200 acres of open spaces, mature oak trees line vast open green spaces and trails that scatter the city and provide the 72,000 residents with ample recreation resources.
First recognized as a granite mining destination along the transcontinental railroad in 1864, Rocklin celebrates over 130 years of cityhood. Rocklin quarries, which once provided the granite for the construction of the state capitol building, remain a prominent fixture in the community. Non-operating quarries now serve a different purpose in Rocklin, such as the Quarry Park Adventures, which is the nation’s only adventure park built within an abandoned rock quarry. The site sits upon what was once the Union Granite Company’s largest operating quarry, opened in 1864.
Reminders of the city’s vast history are sprinkled across town. Old Saint Mary’s Chapel, dedicated in 1883, exudes a peaceful charm and is frequently used as the backdrop for movie productions. The magic of this 130-year old railroad town can be felt when strolling through old downtown Rocklin. From Finnish Temperance Hall established for social functions in 1905 to the Wickman-Johnson home, which operated as a farm and dairy beginning in 1886, Rocklin truly illustrates the beauty of old-town charm meets suburban haven for families and visitors alike.
