Location Details

Nacimiento Fergusson Road - Forest Road No. 22S01

United States / Big Sur, California
Location ID: #10105938

Nacimiento-Fergusson Road is quite an adventure. It starts at the Big Sur Coast on Highway 1 between Gorda Springs Resort and Lucia Lodge and climbs steeply up to many viewpoints in the tall mountains of Los Padres National Forest. This is not a drive for the faint of heart. The paved road is barely two lanes wide (no center strip) with step banks on both sides. There are no guardrails and veering off the road would be disastrous. That said, if you like a challenge, enjoy driving, seek adventure, and want to be rewarded with stunning views, then take this drive. Just go slow around corners and pay attention! There are pull-outs along the way for taking photos and for turning around. If you were to continue east, the road will eventually descend to Fort Hunter Liggett and the Mission San Antonio de Padua before eventually running into Highway 101.
