At the base, there's a steelhead fishery facility operated by the USACE. There is also a Cold-War era fallout shelter connected to a bridge behind the dam.
A large reservoir formed with the construction of an earthen dam in the 1950s. The surrounding area offers many recreational opportunities. There are several campgrounds dotting around the lake (totaling 300 campsites) with 15 miles of trails (much in 700-acre wilderness areas).
