Location Details

Caspar House - Caspar Lumber Mill Store

United States / Caspar, California
Location ID: #10135074

Our home in Caspar, a few minutes north of Mendocino, is a historical landmark on the Northern California coast in Mendocino County. It’s history dates back to the 1870’s when the building was first constructed. It measures a total of 3,200 square feet with 12-foot-tall ceilings.

We have restored a great portion of the structure, converting an 800 sq. ft space into an art studio with 7 skylights installed for light and warmth. The kitchen has been renovated and now has a modern, farm house feel to it. The main middle room is 1400 sq. feet. Photos I’ve included here show what the main room looks like with and without furnishings. The kitchen is also shown in this manner: showing what it looks like as an active kitchen and as being empty.

The building was utilized for twelve years as a recording studio for local Bill Bottrell who had a wide range of musicians play and record there; Neil Young, Tom Petty and Sheryl Crow, to name a few. The building is situated at the southern end of Caspar Road in our small sleepy town. Perfectly remote and private. There is plenty of parking as well.

We have put in an Australian and South African garden in and around the property. There is a large outdoor deck and an outdoor bath tub with a grape stake modesty fence. Right outside our property line we are surrounded by 35 acres of state parkland making up the Caspar Headlands Natural State Reserve. A short walk through there will take you to the ocean edge where there is an almost hidden bench. The scenic views you’ll see in this dramatic shoreline is unparalleled.
