Site Condition: The areas of interest include El Mirage Dry Lakebed, the Shadow Mountains, El Mirage Basin, and the Twin Hills area. This makes up 24,000 acres of public and private land. Elevations range from about 2,800 feet at the El Mirage Dry Lake to more than 3,800 feet in the Shadow Mountains

Usage Restriction: Unfortunately due to a lot of damage that has been done to the lakebed surface by production companies not following the location stipulations - the BLM has considered putting a monitor on every shoot at El Mirage. Here are the extended El Mirage guidelines: Activities that cause damage: 1) vehicles making sharp turns 2) vehicles spinning their wheels 3) vehicles skidding to a stop 4) vehicles doing donuts (driving in a circle) 5) digging 6) posting 7) staking 8) spiking 9) large amounts of liquid spilled on the lakebed then vehicles driving or people walking on the wet surface. (large amounts = more than an average single serving bottle of water) Who is associated with a film shoot: 1) crew 2) cast 3) interns 4) above the line 5) clients/agents 6) vendors (i.e. caterers, security, etc) 7) friends of anyone listed above 8) family of anyone listed above 9) visitors of anyone listed above If the BLM catches anyone associated with the shoot causing damage to the lakebed surface, the shoot will be shut down and the Production Company will be issued a fine.
