Nestled in the mixed conifer forest of the Southern Sierra Nevada at an elevation of 5,370’ Shaver Lake offers numerous and varied recreational opportunities for every interest. The lake is located approximately one hour east from Fresno, California. The dam creating the current Shaver Lake was completed by Southern California Edison in 1927 as part of the historic Big Creek Hydroelectric Project. The lake surface covers approximately 2,160 acres with 22 miles of shoreline.

Some of the recreation opportunities Shaver Lake has to offer are camping, rock climbing, water skiing, sailing, and many others. For those looking for a hike, there are 35 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding around the Shaver area on Southern California Edison land. The trails are maintained by the Shaver Lake Volunteers and managed by Southern California Edison.

There are two campgrounds, Dora Bella and Camp Edison, located on the shores of Shaver Lake and there is also the Shaver Lake Stables where you can book a one or two hour horseback riding trip. Shaver has two boat launches, the Fresno County launch is on the north side of the lake and the other launch is located at Camp Edison.
