The scenic San Joaquin River Gorge Recreation Area straddles the San Joaquin River just upstream from Millerton Lake State Recreation Area and includes lands in Fresno and Madera Counties. Kerckhoff Reservoir and the Sierra National Forest on the eastern boundary bound the management area.
The San Joaquin River Trail Bridge at Big Sandy Creek, within the Millerton Lake State Recreation Area has been installed and is open for use. This bridge links the San Joaquin River Gorge trail system to the State Parks’ trail system.
The area includes an outstanding non-motorized trail system, river access, an individual, group, and equestrian campground, and a Visitor Center with extensive opportunities for educational experiences for visitors, schools and other groups.
