Location Details

Presbyterian Church of Mendocino

United States / Mendocino, California
Location ID: #856

Mendocino Presbyterian Church is the oldest continually active Protestant congregation in California. As Mendocino County became the center of the timber industry, the American workers who immigrated here initially were largely from Vermont and New Hampshire hence why this California village looks like it was created in the Northeast. Mendocino is recognizable in the movies from films like "Johnny Belinda", "East of Eden" and "The Russians Are Coming." Others know Mendocino as "Cabot's Cove" in the tv show "Murder She Wrote". MPC is looking for opportunities to tell the "untold stories" of our community which sadly include the historic genocide of the Pomo people (1850-1856) and the Chinese American genocide (1850-1906).
