Location Details

San Gabriel Mission Playhouse

United States / San Gabriel, California
Location ID: #996

The historic San Gabriel Mission Playhouse hosts classic film screenings and some of the best local music, dance, and theater productions since opening in 1927. The Playhouse’s façade, inspired by Mission San Antonio de Padua, serves as a beautiful backdrop to the venue’s outdoor plaza. Entering the 1300+ seat theater, ornate lanterns replicated from those used aboard Spanish galleons in the 1700s hang from the intricately carved and painted ceiling. Adorning both sides of the theater are colorful woven tapestries that were a gift from the King of Spain, Alfonso XIII, in 1927. The Playhouse is also the proud home to a fully restored 1924 Mighty Wurlitzer theater pipe organ. The venue features a 1,565 sq. ft. lobby, 3,375 sq. ft. stage, green room, rehearsal room, dressing rooms, restrooms, and a 178 space parking lot.
