Description:As the first titanium-clad structure in the United States, the Cerritos Library stands out as a gleaming example of the City’s futuristic vision. The color of the thin titanium skin that covers the building changes subtly depending on the angle of the sun and atmospheric conditions. Entering the building, you will immediately see one of the library’s most striking features: a spectacular 10-foot by 21-foot 15,000-gallon saltwater aquarium. The aquarium frames the entryway to the Children’s Library on one side while giant books decorate the other side. Inside, a 40-foot authentic replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil towers over the Children’s Library. Numerous other exhibits designed for exploration give the Children’s Library a museum atmosphere. The 3,200-square-foot Skyline Room on the third floor can be accessed via an interior etched glass and titanium staircase or an exterior glass elevator. It can accommodate up to 216 guests for a lecture and is an ideal location for banquets and receptions. The room opens onto a roof terrace with a panoramic view of Cerritos. The Skyline Room features state-of-the-art lighting and audio visual capabilities and an open atrium allows guests a view of the first floor. The third floor also features a 1,200-square-foot High-Tech Training Lab where up to 27 students can work at computers arranged theater style. The room features plasma screens, projection, and video conferencing capability. The 500-square-foot Board Room has space for small meetings up to 12 people. The Board Room's handsome round hardwood table has ports for computer access along with comfortable seating. Design Awards: Award of Excellence - American Library Association/American Institute of Architects; Award of Honor - Southern California Institute of Architects. Area: 82,500 sq. ft.
Site Condition:Cerritos is located in the heart of the Los Angeles/Orange County metro center, midway between Downtown Los Angeles and the business centers of Irvine, Santa Ana and Anaheim.
