Description:CARMEL VALLEY SCENIC DRIVE Though Monterey County's coastal views may be its most famous, its inland vistas are also stunning. This windy excursion, with many twists and turns, will take you through the up-and-coming Carmel Valley wine region and past cattle ranches. You'll get breathtaking views of valleys and the Santa Lucia Mountains. Start at Highway 1 and Carmel Valley Road, also known as County Road G16. You'll pass Earthbound Farm, Folktale Winery, Garland Ranch Regional Park and several exceptional wineries as you begin your journey. Road trippers can easily make Carmel Valley Village the main destination on this excursion as several award-winning wine tasting rooms and exceptional restaurants are clustered in the walkable area.
Site Condition:Monterey County Route G16 runs 56 miles (90 km) between the Santa Lucia Range and the Sierra de Salinas in Monterey County, California. The route, beginning from California State Route 1 follows Carmel Valley Road along the Carmel River into the Carmel Valley and southeastward into the community of the same name, near which the road intersects with Monterey County Route G20. After 41 miles (66 km) the route turns eastward onto Arroyo Seco Road. Upon entering the Salinas Valley, G16 joins Elm Avenue, later passing through Greenfield, crossing the Salinas River, and terminating at Monterey County Route G15 near the valley's eastern edge.
