Description:In 1965, Lewis (Dude) McCaslin at age 43 and Viola (Vi) McCaslin moved to Redding and purchased land located at 1644 Hartnell Avenue on June 4, 1965. They signed a contract with a franchise company named ‘Dari-Delite’. The store’s grand opening was on August 24, 1965. The McCaslin’s later went to court and was able to break the contract with ‘Dari-Delite’ and changed their name to ‘Dude’s Drive Inn’. Why Dude’s? Lewis McCaslin was a cool dude that everybody liked so his family and friends nick named him Dude. If you are not in the mood for a burger, it’s okay.
