Description:There is a lot of history throughout this very small rural community. Settled in 1855, Timbuctoo thrived as a center of hydraulic gold mining and became the largest town in eastern Yuba County. The town is said to have been named by an African American miner from Timbuktu in Mali, Africa. No original buildings are left standing, but the countryside is filled with a quiet beauty.
