Description:The remains of an old military camp is now host to people who live "outside the grid"... some being permanent squatters, other RVers, plus tourists. A quirky place with a storied history of life in the desert. Places of interest include a cobbled-together library, a church, a skate park created from the remains of a gigantic public pool, an outdoor music venue, a hot spring, and the large outdoor art installation, "East Jesus". Famous Salvation Mountain is a part of this eclectic location known by locals as "one of America's last free places". Technically this place falls under State of California Land, but quick help and guidence can be obtained easily from the Imperial County Film Commission.
