Description:
The Cayucos Landing, formerly known as the Cayucos Veteran’s Hall or Cass Warehouse, is a restored oceanfront landmark and the cornerstone of the Cayucos community’s historic and cultural identity. In 1873, the founder of Cayucos, James Cass, constructed a warehouse and pier along the central coast of California as a mid-way point for vessels traveling between San Francesco and Los Angeles. He called it Cayucos Landing. Since its construction, the building has served its community well, acting as a hub for local commerce, social gatherings, and celebrations. Although its original purpose was to house goods, mainly lumber and dairy, the oceanfront warehouse eventually grew to be known for the celebrations it hosted. After 143 years of service, the building was deemed structurally unsound and closed in 2016. Fortunately, thanks to a collaborative effort between California State Parks, San Luis Obispo County Parks, and a number of generous community donors, this historic landmark has undergone a full restoration. After nearly a decade of planning, construction, and community fundraising, the Cayucos Landing is once again open to the public, ready to make history for years to come.
