Description:19th Century square tower with round lantern and granite building for support staff. The Point Sur Lightstation sits 361 feet above the surf on a large volcanic rock. Point Sur is the only complete turn-of-the century Lightstation open to the public in California, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. First lit on August 1, 1889, the lighthouse has remained in continuous operation. Lighthouse keepers and their families lived at the site from 1889 to 1974 when the lighthouse was automated. Today the Lightstation buildings are being restored through the efforts of park staff, State Park volunteers and the non-profit Central Coast Lighthouse Keepers. The Lightstation is open to the public only through docent-led tours. Established in 1957, the former Point Sur Naval Facility (NAVFAC) was once part of a worldwide network of defensive listening stations that tracked the movement of Soviet submarines. Usage Restriction:**** MINIMUM THIRTY (30) DAYS ADVANCE NOTICE FOR FILMING REQUESTS IS REQUIRED. **** All film shoots at this park constitute a complex permit and the film permit process requires a minimum of thirty (30) days to complete and this process must be completed at least ten (10) days in advance of the shoot. Film shoots may be permitted to occur on Monday or Tuesday non-holiday dates only. Film shoots may not interfere with and/or occur during any scheduled park tours or programs. : All drone use is considered unsafe recreation and is a citable offense (CCR 4319). **** No trespassing on adjacent 6-7,000 acre private property. ****No filming is allowed on the neighboring easement next to the Point Sur Light station. // All film shoots at this park require at least one (1) ranger monitor, one (1) maintenance, and one (1) docent monitor. Most shoots require additional Docent, Ranger, or Park Aide monitors; however, the number and type of monitors will be determined after we receive the pending film permit from the CFC and a completed Film Production Information Form.
